There is an Open Air Dutch Museum near Zaanse Schans. We saw a craftsman making wooden shoes and, of course, purchase some wooden shoes. The Dutch use wooden shoes a lot - when camping, when mowing the lawn, and when working on the windmills, especially when it's raining. And it rains a lot! The weather here reminds me of Seattle, mostly cloud & rainy in the morning & then partly sunny in the afternoon. We will have lots of wet weather while we are camping this fall, so we purchased some wooden shoes to use instead of rubber "duck" shoes.
Also we saw another craftsman making pewter spoons in a very small shop. He made the spoons very quickly and he even melted a defective spoon in the small but hot vat of pewter to prove how the process works.
Since the Dutch are famous for Edam and Gouda. We visited a cheese shop and tasted many different types of Edam and Gouda cheeses. Obviously, we purchase some of the cheese and enjoy it for many meals.
