On our trip through Belgium, Netherlands, and Denmark, we camped again in the town of Boxtel. It was pleasant "to know" the location of the nearest bank, grocery store, and campsite instead of searching for these essential amenities. One of the tiring things about our adventure is searching for places to satisfy our basic needs such as lodging or food.
On our first trip to Boxtel, the campground owner was very proud of the newly renovated bathroom and washing facilities. It was very clean, spic-n-shiny new, and child-friendly. Of course, the campground was as pleasant as ever, including the campground owner. After a few visits, the owners recognized us and we realized that this was the beginning of a cordial relationship.

The Keukenhof Gardens
|
One of the reasons for returning to the Netherlands in the spring was to see the tulips. The Keukenhof Gardens is near Lisse in the tulip-growing district of Noord-Holland. This great bulb-growing center produces tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, and daffodils, which are dispatched all over the world. The tulip came to the Netherlands from Asia Minor by way of Austria at the end of the 15th century. In the following century, it gave rise to "tulip mania" during which extraordinary prices were paid for choice bulbs.
Keukenhof Gardens has over 6 million flowers in a 70-acre park. It is packed with tour groups from March 23 through May 23. The Keukenhof garden is one of the best places to see the flower displays of tulips, daffodils, and crocuses. There were many beautiful and unusual tulips and so many colors - 40 shades of red, 40 shades of orange, 40 shades of pink and 40 shades to yellow, to mention only a few!
At the reception gate, a scavenger hunt is given to each family with young children. So we explored the gardens by completing the scavenger hunt! For completing the quiz, Erika was given a wooden yo-yo. Throughout the gardens, there are interesting sculptures and fountains to see. We also enjoyed the fragrance of daffodils and tulips "Es ist wonderbar!"
