Before we left Germany we had to visit the old city of Rothenberg again. It was a favorite place to visit during our first trip on the Romantic Road during our first summer in Europe. So, on our way to Austria, we stopped in Rothenberg. We bought sandwiches to eat, so we could walk along the wall a final time while eating our lunch. We also, of course, bought chocolate balls. These are sweet pastry balls covered in chocolate. If you don't like plain chocolate, you could have chocolate with walnuts or powdered sugar or maybe just cinnamon and sugar. The original recipe calls for just powdered sugar, which is how they got their name, Schneeball. These delights can only be purchased in Rothenberg, which was the real reason we just had to stop back one more time.
