Albi

This city is the birthplace of Toulouse-Lautrec, one of the impressionist artists - more specifically, a modern lithographer artist and printmaker. The Museé Toulouse-Lautrec contains many drawings, paintings, and lithographs by this artist. We saw how Toulouse-Lautrec developed his ideas using different poses, different compositions, or different medium (paint, pastel, or charcoal drawing) based on the same subject matter. Toulouse-Lautrec's transfer drawings for lithographs showed where he used white paint (the original whiteout) to make corrections and erase parts of the drawings prior to making the print impression.

Located below the museum are the formal gardens of the Palais de la Berbie. When we looked out the windows of the Museum, these gardens looked so inviting, that we had to investigate them. The gardens led us to beautiful views of the Tarn River and the city of Albi.
